2 Kings 21 Manasseh and Amnon

2 Kings 21

Following the death of King Hezekiah who was recorded as a good king who wholeheartedly worshipped God.

Manasseh, his son and heir was not of the same mind , he followed the ways of the surrounding nations, rebuilding all the high places that Hezekiah had torn down. He erected alters to Baal and asherah poles.

He built alters to the zodiac inside the temple dedicated to God alone.
He sacrificed his son in the fire and practised divination, sought omens and consulted mediums and spiritualists, all practises that are forbidden in the law of God.
Sacrificing children in fire is also illegal in today's western society!
Because of Manesseh God decided to judge Jerusalem and Judah with the same measure as he did with Samaria and the nation of Israel.

He will destroy Jerusalem and clean it out, as Manasseh murdered so many innocent people that Jerusalem ran with blood.

Ironically Manasseh ruled for 55 years and had one of the longest reigns in the Bible.

Amnon his son followed very much in his father's footsteps, but his officials assassinated him after 2 years.

It seems that the writing is on the wall for Judah, but the bible is far from over yet.
