1 Samuel 21 Chase scenes

1 Samuel 21

The next several chapters of the Bible are the account of Saul's pursuit of David and David's evasion and occasional adventures.

David left Ramah just as Saul is arriving and heads to the Tabernacle which is at a place, rather unfortunately named "Nob" David's friendly priest Ahimelek asks why David is on his own and unarmed.

David asked Ahimelek for some food and any weapons that are handy - the only food is consecrated and is only allowed for the priests to eat, however Ahimelek allows David and his guard to eat of the holy bread. Jesus actually referred to this incident in the Gospels, which we will come to in due course.

The only weapon around is the sword of Goliath which David has obviously learned to use since he killed Goliath using a slingshot!

David then departs the country of Israel and heads to Achish, king of Gath (Which is Goliath's home town)
Achish's advisors mention to their king that David is renowned in song "Saul has killed his thousands, David his tens of thousdands", when David heard about this he decided to act insane - making marks on the door and gate frames and drooling into his beard.

Achish is not very impressed that "Look at him, he is insane! Why bring him to me? Am I so short of madmen that you bring this fellow here to carry on in front of me?"

David's ruse seems to have worked and his life is safe - I have to say that mental illness is not something I recommend or condone faking even if David felt threatened for his life.
